Road to Wildflower Pt. 4

The week is starting off well, I got all 3 sports in the last 3 days; biked 18 miles on Sunday, swam 1K on Monday, ran 3 miles today and to top it all off I feel pretty good. I was fried yesterday but bounced back alright today. I think I didn’t eat enough earlier in the day so by the time the swim was over there was nothing left in me but sleep. Not physical exhaustion just really sleepy and unmotivated. I’ve tried really hard in the last two swims to change my technique it seems to be helping, while I’m not really going any faster I’m not as tired with each set. Swimming is a difficult skill. Staying afloat isn’t so hard, moving forward at a reasonable pace without wearing yourself out is very hard. The change I’ve made is to glide less. Everything I read last year had me extending my body as much as possible. That combined with having taken forever to learn catch-up drills without actually sinking got me stuck in a mode where I’d extend my arm after entry and leave it there until my other hand was about to re-enter. Then instead of pulling back I’d push down leaving the arm at almost full extension until it was ready to leave the water again. Breaking this habit isn’t easy but I think it’ll be well worth it.
